PETRO-QUANT -The XRF Solution for the Petrochemical Industry
X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF) is used in the hydrocarbon processing industry and related branches for elemental analysis and trace element determination in all kind of petrochemical materials: Through all stages of the refinery process impurities from the crude oil, metals and catalysts need to be analyzed. Final products need to be specified according to specific norms. Through the whole lifetime of petrochemical products (oil, polymers, chemicals,..) from the production to disposal, thermal treatment or use as secondary fuel, X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF) is the most suited analytical method to support all these different applications. Bruker AXS has developed the specific XRF solution to support all petrochemical applications based on XRF: PETRO-QUANT.
PETRO-QUANT is the powerful analytical solution developed specifically for the petrochemical industry. It provides quick and easy quantitative elemental analysis for process and quality control laboratories with either the world class wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometers (WDXRF) S4 EXPLORER or S4 PIONEER. PETRO-QUANT produces accurate and precise analytical results straight out of the box as the wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometers ,(WDXRF) are calibrated for a wide range of applications. It frees the operator from time consuming calibration work, saving weeks of commissioning, to ensure the pay back begins from the very beginning.
For general analysis of hydrocarbon matrices, such as fuels and lubricants, the universal calibration OilQuant is used. OilQuant enables standardless analysis for all required elements from Sodium (Na) to Lead (Pb) covering concentrations from trace elements (ppm) to major levels (%) (e.g. for S and Cl).
For compliance with international norms such as ASTM, DIN, IP or EN ISO, samples must be analyzed against norm specific calibrations. PETRO-QUANT supports pre-defined norms with detailed instructions. Bruker AXS also provides fully calibrated wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometers (WDXRF) matching the needs of petrochemical laboratories.
GEO-QUANT – Powerful trace analysis solutions for Geology, Minerals and Mining
The earth yields an almost infinite variety of mineral and rock types formed from a multitude of natural processes. Each geological sample is a product of the initial source material and the environmental conditions present when it was formed. These combinations lead to extreme variations in major, minor and trace element composition.
Whenever igneous, sedimentary, or metamorphic geological materials are of interest in science or industry, the accurate and precise determination of trace elements becomes important.
The geochemical composition of individual rock and mineral types leads to distinct characteristics which make them a valuable resource for both scientific research and commercial exploitation.
Identifying the trace element make-up of these materials is financially and strategically important to a number of operations such as:
- Academic geochemical research
- Archaeology
- Ceramics and refractory production
- Petrochemical exploration
- Environmental studies and profiling
- Contaminated land surveys
- Industrial mineral and cement production
- Construction and road building
Accurate and precise trace analysis in geological samples is now fast and easy. GEO-QUANT is the powerful solution developed by Bruker AXS for geological research, industrial minerals and environmental studies. Running on the high performance wavelength dispersive XRF spectrometer, S4 PIONEER, GEO-QUANT performs superior trace analysis straight out of the box.
Using GEO-QUANT makes trace analysis a safe and easy task in daily routine. It is based on wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence and performs trace analysis directly on solid samples. No hazardous chemicals and no acid digestion are required -- sample preparation is quick, safe and easy. GEO-QUANT is simple to operate: just prepare the sample, start the predefined measurement and get instant results. All corrections are done automatically during the evaluation.
The high excitation power of the S4 PIONEER, in combination with the close coupled beam path and the intensity optimized geometry, produces exceptional elemental sensitivity. This sensitivity provides detection limits in the sub-ppm range and ensures excellent analytical repeatability. The S4 PIONEER provides excellent peak resolution by using superior beam collimation and high resolution analyzer crystals. With the robust design and the large XY-auto-sampler, the S4 PIONEER perfectly meets scientific and industrial requirements.
ROHS-QUANT - The dedicated solution for fast and accurate RoHS compliance checks
Since July 2006 the EU directive EU 2002/95/EC for the “Restriction of Hazardous Substances” (RoHS) in electrical and electronic products excludes all non-compliant products from the market. Similar regulations will be introduced in other areas of the world, including China and the US, within a short period of time. All new products and production processes need to be monitored for the concentration of restricted substances, namely hexavalent Cr, Hg, Pb, Cd and Polybrominated Diphenylethers and Biphenylethers (PBDE and PBE). Ensuring that no limit is exceeded is a huge challenge for every manufacturer of electrical and electronic equipment.
Reliable, accurate and fast screening for the RoHS restricted elements in all different kinds of materials is a daunting task. In practice X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis has proven itself as the perfect analytical tool for fulfilling the main requirements of the industry and service laboratories. The minimal sample preparation without the use of harmful chemicals and the direct measurement of solid samples distinguishes XRF from any other elemental analysis technique. With the lowest calibration effort, shortest time-to-result and highest cost effectiveness, XRF is perfect for screening large numbers of samples in a short time. The IEC working group TC111, responsible for the industrial standardization of RoHS procedures, has ranked XRF as the best analytical tool for quantitative screening in RoHS (IEC 62321).
ROHS-QUANT, provided only by Bruker AXS, makes RoHS compliance checks even simpler. Set up as the dedicated solution with predefined applications for RoHS, ROHS-QUANT is easy to use. It provides unrivalled analytical performance for the analysis of polymer and plastic samples, is based on special RoHS standard samples and can be customized to meet special analytical needs. ROHS-QUANT is available for the S2 RANGER (EDXRF) as well as the S4 EXPLORER (WDXRF).
From qualitative monitoring and quantitative screening to full quantitative analysis, ROHS-QUANT with the S2 RANGER or the S4 EXPLORER is perfectly suited for all RoHS applications.
