The X8 PROSPECTOR is a fully integrated system designed for high-throughput protein crystal screening. While designed with screening applications in mind, the X8 PROSPECTOR provides the analytical power to collect quality data for protein structure determination.

The X8 PROSPECTOR combines the highly reliable, low maintenance IµS™ microfocus sealed-tube X-ray source with optimised QUAZAR high brightness optics and the fastest, most sensitive APEX II CCD detector available today. Together these components form a compact and extremely fast data collection system with exceptional reliability and low maintenance costs. It’s both a perfect screening partner when preparing for synchrotron trips and a great system to use for high quality data collection.

Even though it consumes only 30 W of power and is the size of a standard sealed tube, the air-cooled IµS microsource generates X-ray intensity greater then traditional rotating anode generators. Designed specifically for the IµS, our Quazar optics are available in two configurations: the standard Quazar produces a larger focused spot and higher flux perfect if your samples tend to be bigger and the Quazar MX which produces a small high-intensity beam ideal for tiny crystals.

The APEX II CCD completes the system offering an extremely sensitive, low noise detector to allow even weakly scattering crystals to be characterized. The fast readout means less time collecting data or screening crystals.
