Application Scientist: Nano Mechanical Speciality
This position has 5 primary responsibilities:
- Provide scientific application and technical expertise in the definition, validation, and release of winning products and new growth market adoption in the area of quantitative nanomechanical measurement.
- Be an active participant and evangelist in the scientific nanomechanical community by carrying out cutting edge AFM research, and communicating your work in scientific conferences, presentations, papers, application notes, and Bruker activities.
- Expand our technology’s reach into new markets, enable our customer’s productivity and dramatically improve our customer service, by creating and leading content rich, highly interactive customer trainings through webinars, on-site courses, community forums, and self-serve knowledge bases.
- Engage in collaborations that align and enable our market, product, and technology roadmaps – specifically in areas such as i) the development of nanomechanical standards, and ii) applications currently dominated by electron microscopies and nano-indentation.
- Dynamically apply our world-class expertise to AFM’s global, tactical and strategic priorities (from Demos, to VOC), and through our actions and spirit, reclaim our position as the unrivaled performance leader.
Essential Functions:
- Serve as final authority in both hands-on and theoretical discussions of any nanomechanical escalated situation (sales or scientific)
- Design and implement a strategic portfolio of relationships within University, Government and Industrial research nanomechanical leaders
- Engage the research community to keep our online centers vibrant (Webinar, Forum, etc.)
- Visit customers to disseminate research and application results, identify new opportunities, enhance Bruker’s reputation, and gain first hand competitive and market information
- Quarterly review and presentation of collaborative and competitive results
Physical/Environmental Requirements:

Desktop Support Technician
This position assists IT Operations staff with technical support of desktop computers, applications, and related technology. Support includes installation and testing of computer systems and peripherals within established standards and guidelines. Activities require interaction with application software and operating systems to diagnose and resolve unique, non-recurring problems.
The position utilizes one-on-one consultancy to end users. The employee in this position also assists in the maintenance and testing of network servers and associated equipment. The position’s responsibilities require independent analyses, communication and problem solving. Work is performed with little supervision and requires initiative and judgment.

Probes Planner
The Probes Planner is responsible for planning functions. He / she will maximize productivity, product quality, and customer satisfaction while minimizing cost. The Planner will follow up on availability of materials, delays and order changes, ensuring customer requirements are met.
Essential Functions:
- Utilize the MRP system in planning and translating demand and supply requirements for both purchase orders and work orders
- Create and complete production orders in SAP, input cycle count data and reconcile variances
- Create and maintain production and service order integrity and documentation
- Liaise with purchasing department to ensure purchase orders meet MRP demand
- Liaise with Sales department to meet customer order commit dates
- Seek continuous improvements and initiate corrective actions where applicable
- Support new product introduction teams
- Review and provide input to Engineering Change Orders. Provide material impact analysis and implements approved changes in production as necessary
- Resolve all work order discrepancies within 1 business day, cycle count related problems within 2business days, and MRB issues within 15 days
- Notify Operations Manager/Master Scheduler of routing/BOM discrepancies
- Coordinate on time delivery of normal production and engineering projects, as appropriate
- Participate in cross-functional team coordination
- Track demand trends and makes appropriate proposals to management to avoid stock-out situations
- Serve as backup for shipping and receiving
- Administer and comply with all Environmental, Health and Safety policy, procedures as set forth by Federal, State and company directives

Graphic Designer/Artist
The Graphic Designer/Artist is responsible for the graphics/layout of all collateral marketing materials for three business units (AFM, SOM and TMT) in the Bruker Nano Surfaces division. The application of graphics materials extends throughout a range of media types, each wich specific skills and requirements, from web content to print materials. This includes, but is not limited to, product brochures, application notes, tradeshow graphics, print advertisement, web banners and web advertising designs.
The position requires specified training in the use of graphic design programs, as well as an eye for design. The graphic designer should have excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team, as well as the ability to tackle unsuppervised projects. The graphic desingner must be able to combine the input from business unit personnel, Marcom personnel, and maintain Bruker corporate guidelines, to an end product within a specified project timeline.

Mechanical Engineer
In our Metrology segment of Bruker Nano Surfaces Division, we design and manufacture atomic force microscopes ("AFMs"), scanning probe microscopes ("SPMs"), stylus profilers, and fast 3D optical microscopes, used to provide critical surface measurements in research and production environments. This broad line of products is used in universities, research facilities and scientific centers worldwide. In production environments (such as microelectronics and solar), precision manufacturing industries, (such as medical device manufacturing, automotive and aerospace) and other related industries, our metrology instruments enable customers to monitor their products throughout the manufacturing process to improve yields, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
We have an immediate opening for a temporary mechanical engineer to work in our Engineering department designing state of the art atomic force microscopes. Qualified candidates should have a BS (or equivalent experience) in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field. Experience with mechanical design, machining, and 3D CAD are required. Experience with motion control, optics, and Semiconductor, Data Storage (or other high-tech) industry OEM suppliers are highly desirable. Responsibilities will range from task-oriented assignments to management of small projects. Essential Functions:
This position will work primarily on Engineer to Order (ETO) specials for the Automated AFM (AAFM) product line with opportunities to contribute to new product development.

AFM Probes Scientist

- Advanced level skills in all the MEMS process design, fabrication and verifications

Sr. Software Quality Assurance Engineer

We are looking for a Sr. Software Quality Assurance Engineer to test the Automated Systems software. You will be responsible for working with the software development and management to develop and execute quality assurance for state-of-the-art metrology products. You will be responsible for conveying software shortcomings to software engineers and for working closely with software engineers to ensure that shortcomings are resolved. The expected length of assignment is between 12-18 months.
Position Requirements:
8-10 years software or system test experience. Minimum of BS in computer engineering or a technical field. Ability to develop and document test plans, perform tests, and document test results.
- Excellent testing skills with test planning and execution knowledge.
- Strong record keeping and documentation skills.
- Strong organizational and oral / written communications skills.
- Familiar with Automated AFM operation and maintenance.
- Experience in integration and/or testing of: Windows based test, control, or metrology equipment including robotics, digital signal processing, instrumentation, Windows applications, and real time system environments.
- Experience in metrology, and semiconductors manufacturing equipment is a plus.
- Strong PC-based, computer system knowledge.

Sr. Software Engineer
The AFM Software group of the Nano Surfaces Business of Bruker Corporation in Santa Barbara is looking for a Software Engineer to design and develop software for the operation of our world leading Atomic Force Microscopes. You will be responsible for working closely with scientists, engineers and management on the full spectrum of software development from hardware interfaces and instrument control to software application design. You will design, program, and modify software enhancements for new nano-scale Research and Production Control metrology tools based on atomic force microscopy technology. We are currently looking for a Sr. Software Engineer. The expected length of assignment is between 12-18 months.
Essential Functions:
- Develop with modern production level software tools and systems with C# and C++ using object-oriented languages and techniques.
- Provide new designs for real-time, non-real time, and intuitive interactive software systems to implement new modes of operation.
- Requires a thorough working knowledge of Windows XP/Windows 7 using MFC, WPF and .Net using multi-threaded programming.

Repair Center Technician

We are currently looking for a Repair Center Technician who will be responsible for repairing items returned for repair. This includes some evaluation and troubleshooting to a board level, soldering, part replacement, adhering parts for assembly, cleaning of parts, and some testing and calibration. We're looking for people who are motivated to work within a team environment, with engineers and administration while following policies through the repair process.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Perform repairs on a variety of micro assemblies related to faults found
- Test and calibrate items repaired to ensure proper operation and conformance to calibration standards
