Environmental Protection and Waste Management (XRF)
Environmental protection is today one of the most important and most advanced analytical tasks: Monitoring of contaminated land, determination of hazardous elements in air and water, classification of waste materials, ashes, sludge and the specification of products for later recycling and disposal – new legislation forces the analysis of elements at lowest concentration levels in a huge variety of different material types.
X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF) is the most suitable analytical technique to handle all the different kind of materials, no matter if they are solids, sludge, filters, liquids, powders: For every material type a fast and simple sample preparation technique can be applied: Solid samples and filters can be measured directly; slurries, powders and liquids can be measured in a liquid cup. For higher accuracy powdered samples are prepared as pressed pellets or glass discs. X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF) supports the different application types providing instant answers about element concentration in a dynamic range from sub-ppm to 100 % with standardless calibration using powerful matrix correction algorithm.
Advanced energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence Spectrometry for environmental protection and waste management (EDXRF)
Environmental monitoring tasks for contaminated land, air and water pollution, waste sorting, determination of hazardous elements in alternative secondary fuels: The energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometer S2 RANGER (EDXRF) is specifically developed to enable the fast identification and quantification of hazardous elements. EQUA ALL, the unique standardless calibration for energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence analysis (EDXRF), can handle a huge variety of different sample types and performs a full quantification of relevant elements in a sample. Easy to maintain without the need of liquid Nitrogen, but providing high spectral resolution, easy to relocate with the unique all-in-one design, easy to operate with intuitive touch screen operation: The S2 RANGER is dedicated for monitoring tasks.
High performance analysis with wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry in environmental research (WDXRF)
Environmental research is perfectly supported with Bruker AXS wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometers (WDXRF) S4 PIONEER and S8 TIGER. Accurate and precise determination of hazardous elements down to the sub-ppm level, reliable identification of elements due to high spectral resolution, high analytical performance even for light elements: The S4 PIONEER and S8 TIGER are perfectly suited for these analytical tasks. The standardless calibration of SPECTRA plus provides results for every kind of sample and supports therefore all kind of applications. In combination with PETRO-QUANT both wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometers (WDXRF) are dedicated for the determination of traces in hydrocarbon matrices like waste oil, pet coke, used polymers,… Reliable trace analysis from the very beginning.
A novelty: true trace element analysis with XRF
Testing for heavy metals in freshwater, seawater or sewage through conventional methods, such as ICP, requires complete digestion of the sample using hazardous chemicals. This time-consuming and destructive sample preparation step can be omitted with the S2 PICOFOX total reflection X-ray fluorescence (TXRF) spectrometer.
The benefits of TXRF over conventional XRF include a significant enhancement in fluorescence yield, greatly reduced background, and consequently much higher sensitivities to elements present even in trace amounts.
