X-ray Detectors
Detectors for crystallographic applications require a unique combination of sensitivity, speed, dynamic range, resolution, and detector size. The PHOTON 100 takes full advantage of very-high-flux X-ray sources.
The PHOTON 100
The PHOTON 100 is the first CMOS active pixel sensor (APS) detector for crystallography. Modern CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Sensor) technology does now provide sensors for the next detector platform of choice and has incited a significant wave of advancement in high-performance crystallographic imaging. CMOS technology provides large high-performance sensors that were previously only possible with glass-fiber tapered CCDs. The larger pixels of the PHOTON have a greater volume and provide a greater full well or electron storage capacity for a high dynamic range. One of the design considerations was to perfectly match the PHOTON’s pixel size to the point spread function of Bruker’s high resolution scintillator screens.
