The CRYSTAL FARM™ is a key element of our Drug Discovery Structure Factory. This automated protein crystallization storage and imaging system is the result of a strategic partnership formed between Bruker AXS and Discovery Partners International and gives the protein scientist a distinct advantage in the search for new drugs.

Protein Crystallization System

The CRYSTAL FARM automates many of the tedious laboratory processes required to obtain highly pure protein crystals, a necessary requirement for single-crystal X-ray structure analysis to determine 3D information about a protein. To obtain an X-ray quality crystal, each purified protein sample can be tested in hundreds of different conditions. The CRYSTAL FARM provides constant temperature during the crystallization process, checks the test trays for presence of crystallization and provides a simple interface for a user to monitor their experiement.

Tracking of the crystal growth is done on a regular basis by photographing the titer trays. These images are then made available via a web based interface to the specific scientists. CRYSTAL FARM also has optional image recognition software that automatically finds crystals by means of an ingenious search algorithm that looks for solid particles in the digital images.

The new CF150 is our benchtop solution for protein crystal growth and imaging. It features 150 plate storage capability with a 75 cm x 95 cm footprint while providing automated crystal plate storage and retrieval. Like the larger cabinet unit Crystal Farm CF400, the CF150 uses the web-based power of Crystal Farm Navigator for viewing and scoring as well as user-scheduled imaging.
