Cement and Raw Materials
In cement production the chemical and mineralogical composition of raw materials as well as intermediate and finished products has to be determined to control and optimize the process and to guarantee constant high product quality. The raw materials from the quarry, additives, like slag, filter dust,.., through all steps of the production process (milling, mixing,..), the intermediate products, e.g., clinker, hot meal, and the final products are analyzed directly. This information is important to drive the process in the most cost effective way for highest quality. In close partnership with the cement industry Bruker AXS is continuously pushing the performance of its analytical solutions. We are committed to strongly focusing on the seamless integration of our XRF and XRD tools into the process and on simplifying the analytical tasks. Our precalibrated solutions in combination with software for easy, safe, reliable and intuitive operation are trend-setting.
Wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WDXRF) for process and quality control
Wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence analysis (WDXRF) is the well established analytical technique for process and quality control in cement. No other technique can compete with the accuracy and precision, analytical speed and ease of use. Another advantage is the integration path to plant automation making WDXRF the indispensible tool for the process control strategy in cement production. But no question, in addition to process samples alternative raw materials and secondary fuels are easily analyzed, traces of hazardous elements are safely detected.
High analytical speed, shortest time-to-result combined with high analytical flexibility the S8 TIGER is making it available for cement applications. Configured with the analyzer crystal XS-CEM the S8 TIGER provides unrivalled analytical precision for the process monitoring. The S8 TIGER in combination with PETRO-QUANT is the perfect analytical toolbox for the analysis of hazardous elements in secondary fuels: Reliable safe liquid handling, calibrated for the accurate and precise standardless determination of elements in hydrocarbons: Trace analysis in secondary fuels has become an easy job in daily routine.
The S8 TIGER 1K is the most cost economic wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (WDXRF) due to the unique “Plug ‘n Analyze” technology, the perfect solution when installation requirements and running costs counts. Without the requirement of cooling water supply and any need for compressed air the installation and operation in a process control lab becomes easy.
S8 LION - Designed and built for precise high speed elemental analysis
The simultaneous WDXRF spectrometer S8 LION combines ease-of-use with maximum analytical speed and highest reliability for process and quality control in the cement. It is designed and built for precise high speed elemental analysis, and it can simultaneously measure up to 16 elements with precision of 0.05% (RSD) and with a time-to-result of less than 60 seconds in raw materials, intermediate compounds and final products like cement and raw materials. All applicable industry standards, like ASTM C-114, are easily matched or exceeded. As a unique feature the S8 LION can combine the elemental analysis by WDXRF with the free lime quantification (CaO) in one run for process optimization.
Process Control with energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence Analysis (EDXRF)
Due to the importance of continuous process control there is need for a backup instrument as replacement in maintenance and service-times, which can be setup in short time. Also in remote plant locations like the raw mill or small mixing plants a clever benchtop EDXRF will support maintaining a high cement quality.
The S2 RANGER (EDXRF) is setting a new standard with the user interface based on intuitive touch screen operation for easy use and improved analytical performance with consequent integration of latest technologies.
Accurate Cement analysis made easy with CEMENT-QUANT
The element quantification in cement is today a challenging job in daily routine: International standards require traceable reference calibrations, to become an accredited lab daily quality monitoring is required, in order to optimize the process results must be accurate and precise. CEMENT-QUANT is the perfect solution for this job: All standards included, clever sample preparation strategy, optimized applications, daily quality check included – working compliant with ASTM C 114, ISO 29581 and DIN EN 196-2 has become easy.
True phase analysis of clinkers and cement with X-ray diffraction
The physical and chemical properties of clinkers and cement are not only determined by the chemical composition. They are mainly governed by the mineralogical (or: phase) composition. Traditionally clinker phase analysis is done by the BOGUE calculations or by clinker microscopy. However these methods are well known for their deficiencies, but until recently there haven’t been any other tools available.
The introduction of our unique TOPAS software leaded to the worldwide breakthrough of a new analytical tool for quality and process control in cement industry. Fully automated phase analysis of clinkers and cement is now established by X-ray diffraction and the so called Rietveld method. Additionally detector developments reduced measurement time to minutes, enabling real process control. Bruker AXS´s high-throughput diffractometer D4 ENDEAVOR, combined with the SUPER SPEED detectors and the outstanding TOPAS software, brings the fastest and most reliable solution for quantitative phase analysis to the cement industry.
TOPAS – unrivalled performance for quantitative Rietveld analysis
TOPAS’ speed of calculation and the stability of this new generation of refinement software is the decisive step to overcome the limitations of traditional Rietveld programs. The seamless integrated Fundamental Parameters Approach (FPA) allows a physically correct description of the measurement data, which finally ensures getting accurate analytical results. There is no need for a reference measure. It is not only the most successful Rietveld software, it is meanwhile the scientific and industrial standard in the world of cement.
